I am not sure how much you guys have interest in Formula 1 and if you have heard terms like “Big Data, Data analysis etc. or not ? Irrespective of all these notions in my mind i am pretty sure you will enjoy this one.
Have you ever thought of a Car moving at reckless speed of 300kph in front of your eyes and before you press click button of your very expensive Canon DSLR that car has already moved more than 50m ? So, Here it is Formula 1. It is the place that produce thrilling display of human effort and technology. In Formula 1, Success or Failure is a matter of one thousand of a second and there is no room for error. Formula 1 is one of the toughest sports in the world in terms of player’s fitness.
“Data Analysis” is a science of understanding data and bringing insight out of it to make critical business decisions and gain competitive advantages over your rivals. It applies to all industries i.e. Finance, Telecom, Sports etc.
Data Analysis is like backbone of Formula 1 these days. In fact, Many formula 1 team rely on results of telemetry to define their race strategy and to decrease race time by spending millions of dollars on super computers and genius data scientists. No other sports collect data as much as by formula 1 where super computer can execute 38 trillion calculations per second.
According to recent research from NetApp, a Storage management company based at California, Sauber F1 team uses a flexible private cloud architecture. Sauber F1 team uses two flexpod prconfigured data centers. One of the data center is mobile and team carries it during every race while other stays at the headquarter of the team. Having a mobile data center gives huge advantage to the race engineer and drivers to improve the race timing and race strategy. NetApp provides all the data services to Sauber F1 team.
All the Formula 1 team not only collects their own data but also their opponents’ data to gain advantage over them. These data are collected during Free practice session, qualifying, race day and testing of the car in the lab.
Lotum F1 team has also built their own private cloud architecture with the help of EMC2. Things are moving very fast in Formula 1 to beat the rival.
